Sustainable gas integration program

Operational alignment and governance for a biogas joint venture.

Context

In response to evolving environmental sustainability regulations, gas suppliers are increasingly required to include a certain percentage of renewable energy, such as biogas, in their overall energy mix. To meet these obligations, companies can either purchase green energy from third parties or invest directly in production capacity. In this context, a major Belgian energy company entered a joint venture with its Dutch counterpart to secure access to a biogas production site, thereby ensuring regulatory compliance while diversifying its energy sources.

The objective was to align the operations of this joint venture with the company's internal sustainability and governance policies, while ensuring the operational readiness of the project to deliver renewable gas within the permitted framework and blending requirements.

Our impact

While the acquisition and initial set-up was led by the Dutch departments, Intysify supported during five months the Belgian internal teams in aligning governance and operations with the newly integrated biogas activity. Acting as project management officer, our consultant coordinated stakeholders, facilitated cross-border collaboration and ensured that all internal processes complied with sustainability and governance requirements. A key part of the assignment was the development of a comprehensive Target Operating Model (TOM) covering strategic roles, operational flows and compliance checkpoints to guide the long-term success of the joint venture.

At the same time, Intysify played a key role in change management to support Belgian engineering and operational teams through the organizational transition, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and structuring workflows around the new biogas stream.

As a result of this work, the joint venture was equipped with a clear, robust and actionable framework, enabling it to move forward in full compliance with sustainability regulations. Intysify's involvement played a key role in accelerating the utility's transition to greener gas production and a more resilient energy future.
