Greening the last mile

Intysify supported a major retailer in transitioning to electric vehicles for home delivery, combining operational efficiency with carbon footprint reduction and change management for long-term success.

Context

In the e-commerce sector, last-mile delivery is one of the main sources of CO2 emissions. To reduce its carbon footprint, a major Belgian retailer has launched an ambitious project to replace its thermal fleet with electric vehicles for home delivery.

Our impact.

To support them in this process, Intysify developed an action plan in several phases: first, an audit of the existing processes and the definition of the objective. During this phase, our consultants were able to carry out an assessment of the current carbon impact and model an optimal scenario that would guarantee the maintenance of the existing level of service and distribution. Intysify was then able to help the retailer select the first electric vehicle best suited to its operational and logistical needs and to set up a pilot phase and field tests involving route planning, driver training, adaptation of the charging infrastructure and management of ergonomic constraints.

Our consultants were then able to provide change management support to the logistics and operations teams to ensure an effective and sustainable transition. This part is the most challenging as operators have long been used to loading, driving, delivering and returning their trucks in a certain way and now need to adapt and develop new ways of working and can be seen as a barrier to change. The final phase is still ongoing and Intysify will continue to provide guidance on the application and adoption of green last mile methodologies.

The aim of the project is to make e-commerce logistics greener and more efficient, with a view to large-scale deployment for more sustainable and responsible delivery.
