On the other hand, Recycling consists in converting waste materials into new materials that could then be reused. Obviously, poorly managing waste can have disastrous consequences on human health and on the environment. In the past decades, the focus was on economic growth. Nowadays, it is essential to take action at all levels. In response, the European Commission defined a waste hierarchy where prevention is the most preferred action to take while disposal is the least preferred. The goal is first to prevent, then reduce, then recycle, then recover, and finally, in case none of the above could be achieved, dispose of waste.
