Operational support and change management to make sustainable procurement a strategic pillar.

March 2, 2025

Context

A Belgian multinational active in advanced materials had a strategic objective is to achieve net-zero Scope 1 & 2 by 2035. In addition, the company just launched a new policy on responsible purchasing. With a supplier base spanning dozens of countries, the company wanted to embed sustainability deep into its sourcing processes by securing ESG commitments from its critical suppliers.

To support this complex rollout, the multinational company partnered with Intysify to provide excellent operational support. The company needed a structured and scalable approach to identify, engage and monitor more than 400 critical suppliers worldwide, defined by their annual spend, operational importance or lack of alternatives, and ensure their alignment with its sustainability goals.

The challenge was multifaceted: limited engagement from suppliers, particularly SMEs; low internal activation of procurement teams; and difficulties in integrating tools such as Eco Vadis into a cohesive system for tracking supplier compliance.

Our impact.

Our Intysify consultant supported the coordination and execution of this initiative across all procurement units. We developed a unified deployment framework and implemented a dynamic tracking tool that consolidated data across Ariba and Eco Vadis, providing a centralized view of each supplier's status. By working together in close collaboration with 3rd party software, we streamlined the process of inviting suppliers to sign the UGSSP and complete Eco Vadis assessments, while building escalation paths for unresponsive or high-risk suppliers.

Beyond the technical implementation, Intysify played a key role in change management. Our consultant trained procurement teams across regions, supported buyer engagement strategies and worked closely with management to embed sustainable procurement as a core operational mindset. We also contributed to the governance framework for the company's CBAM compliance, helping to anticipate regulatory reporting and financial risk assessment requirements.

As a result of this collaboration, the company successfully engaged most of its critical suppliers in less than a year, with more than half completing a verified Ecovadis assessment. The project also laid the foundations for replicating this model across CAPEX procurement in the future. As a result of Intysify's guidance, sustainable sourcing is now embedded as a strategic pillar of the company's global operations.
